The student:
can describe the characteristics of the most important ‘theologies of the Old Testament’ written after the Second World War, in terms of the methods used in those ‘theologies’ (LOQ 1);
can present an overview of the discipline known as ‘Old Testament Theology’, based on studying one specific ‘Theology of the OT’ (Brueggemann) (LOQ 1);
can describe the message of the OT or of various books from the OT with respect to two theological topics (e.g. the image of God, the covenant, election, angels, etc.) by studying the relevant passages from one specific ‘Theology of the OT’ (Brueggemann) and comparing them with the discussion of these topics in another ‘Theology of the OT’ (LOQ 1,2,3).
can relate the message in question to its historical position and to relevant data from the New Testament (LOQ 1,2,3).
An introduction to the subject of Old Testament Theology (with specific attention to the methodology of the field of Old Testament studies). The lectures will discuss at least one theological theme, with specific attention given to the theology of the Book of Isaiah. The OT-Theology of Brueggemann will be studied in self-study, which also includes the study of two theological topics in comparison with at least one other OT-theology.
