Learning objectives

The student:  

1.      can interpret the four Gospels as apostolic witness (ET 1);  

2.      can critically apply the methods used in the New Testamentary specialist literature when doing exegesis of a given pericope from the Gospels (ET 1, 3, 8);  

3.      can describe the development of the apostolic church from Jerusalem and the associated gospel proclamation (ET 1);  

4.      can describe the historical background of the Catholic Letters (ET 1);  

Course content

The first part (3 EC) of this course is focused on the Gospels as documents reflecting apostolic witness. This part also includes an exercise in exegesis. The second part (3 EC) focuses on the historical development of the apostolic church, beginning from Jerusalem.

Self-study: 166h: two reading reports ca. 130h; exegesis of a pericope ca. 30h. 

 

Assessment

Summative: Two reading reports. Students write two reading reports (one in period A on Bauckham's book and one in period B on Dunn's). Assessment: Pass/Fail. Both reports must be sufficient to succesfully complete this course. 

Formative (in view of the continuation of the MANT): Report on Exegesis. Students submit a small report and receive feedback.
